Brian!! So nice to see you again!

Like I say, they aren't much to look at compared to a nice briar or meer, but I'm really taken by the no-muss, no-fuss aspect of smoking it. Even with years of experience, it's possible to have a poor smoke with most any pipe, but the Falcon seems like it's on auto-pilot. If I mindlessly puff a little too fast or hard, it doesn't seem to heat up on me, and just keeps a nice steady burn. I think the humidome creates a drop in pressure and velocity of the air between the draft hole in the stem and the bottom of the bowl, sort of a reverse Venturi effect, preventing the tobacco from getting all stoked up and hot.

Please note: The views and opinions above are not necessarily those of Pipe Smoker Unleashed. Any resemblance to actual science is purely coincidental.

Congratulations! I hope you find it as nice a pipe as I have. Please feel free to post your impressions once you have a chance to smoke it.

I've always liked the look of the Falcon. It seems... modern. When I smoke in public, non-pipe smokers don't bat an eye, they just figure this what we are smoking in the jet age. Most pipe smokers on the other hand, say, 'Is that a Falcon?!?"

I have two. One with a regular stem and one with the dental bit. I love the one with the dental bit but I don't smoke either very often. The dental bit does make for an easy clencher. The pipes do give an easy-to-like smoke, but I don't appreciate the disassembly and clean up afterward. They are relatively low maintenance (and you are right about the humidome- it can quickly become a cesspool), but compared to a cob or an Ozark Mountain, I find them too much work. I smoke filtered pipes and I use Medico filters because I find they make maintenance hassle-free.

They also tend to smoke quickly with my technique.

When I'm dressed to impress, I employ the patented aluminum and briar technology. If just want to putter around the grounds, I opt for something else. A falcon does seem to be nearly indestructible. I haven't worn one out yet, and that earns it a gold star. It just takes more attention than I care to spend between smokes.

Smoke that Falcon like you mean it, pal,

Thanks for your input, WK. I don't think I mind the maintenance so much when the trade-off is such an easy smoke. Perhaps it's the cigarette smoker in me, but I've never been good at managing a pipe while I'm out and about, paying attention to any number of other things rather than sitting quietly and conciously enjoying a long smoke. I tend to puff too much when my mind wanders, and I fall into the comfortable rhythm of smoking nails. The Falcon might be the thing that saves me from them, forgiving my poor, reflexive smoking habits and delivering a pleasant experience nonetheless.

I also thought there were no pipe smokers in your town when I tired to find a pipe shop a few years back. Sorry you missed the Kirsten. Hows that Falcon doing for you?

Re: So I finally got a Falcon...

Holy, crap! A fellow Fort Wayne man! I have been debating to buy one for awhile at Riegels. I may just have to drop the ball on it now. I help run a local club and we have get togethers once a month. You gotta stop by sometime. I will PM you the info if your interested.

Small world, Hoshneer! I definitely would be interested to meet up with a local group. Feel free to PM me anytime. And yes, being from Fort Wayne, you gotta get a Falcon. I'm really impressed with how well mine smokes. Cheers to local ingenuity!
