    Smoking In The Dark

When I smoked cigarettes I could wake up in the middle of the night, throw my legs over the side of the bed, lite a cig, and get full enjoyment or satisfaction from the smoke. I just can't do the same with a pipe. I can taste the tobacco but I just can't enjoy it. I have come to the conclusion that it is because I can't see the smoke. I also have concluded that I didn't really enjoy the cigarette, it just provided a nic fix. Does that make any sense? Has anybody else experienced this?

It's not that I don't wake up for a pipe, I can just wake up from a noise in the house or a dream and decide to lite a pipe. But if I don't turn on a light I just can't enjoy it. I have to be able to see the smoke in order to enjoy the pipe.

Weird as it sounds, it's happens to me just like that with cigarettes. If I go outside on a particularly dark night for a smoke, if I can't see the smoke from my cigarette, I feel like I'm not even smoking. Damndest thing.

Nope, I never get the urge to have to see the smoke. I just need to feel the throat hit and I am OK.

    I've experienced that too.
    Strange phenomenon.
Sure hope I don't go blind.

Nope. Some of the best times I've had smoking were late at night when I lit up a pipe while I was camping and I was smoking with some friends.
A pipe gives a wise man something to fiddle with as a means of gaining time to formulate an intelligent answer. It gives a fool something to stick into his mouth.

But we're you in complete darkness? No fire? No moonlight? I love having a pipe while camping by the fire and under the moon and stars, I can see the smoke! It's when I can't see the smoke that effects me!

It wasn't always around a campfire but there might have been sufficient light from the moon & stars to see the smoke. I can't remember.

I don't have to see the smoke to enjoy a pipe myself.
