Captain Black White in a Grabow Savoy, didnt have anyone to show me how to smoke a pipe properly or take care of it and was one reason I didnt stick to smoking a pipe. That was over 25 years ago. Now that I know how to smoke a pipe and care for it, I can smoke most any blend and enjoy them. And I have all You experienced pipemen to thank for this, It is forums like this one that helped to educate me on this wonderful experience. smiley32.gif
Enjoy what "You" smoke, and smoke what "You" enjoy.......regardless of what anyone else thinks.

Green Sail in a no-name Bulldog. I still have the bulldog - one of my best pipes! I found Four-Square Curlies after a year or so, and used to mix them with the Sail - made a nice mix! That was, um....48 years ago! :-)

My first pipe tobacco smoked was Borkum Riff cherry. I used to roll my own cigarettes in college and got good enough to roll up a smoke while waiting at a stoplight. When I first picked up a pipe, a friend of mine from work gave me some of his own personal concoction of b&m bulks. Wasn't terrible, smelled and tasted like chocolate chip cookies.

For me it was a pouch of Captain Black White, with a no-name cheapo, it wasn't even briar! lol But I smoked it, filled with the old Captain until the pipe basically fell to pieces in my hands one morning, what a tragic end!

I don't remember exactly which one... it most likely was Larry's No. 2, a nice, light aromatic from the Golden Leaf back in Minneapolis. Their Shipwreck blend was another one of my first few, though, and it may have been that.
