First Meerschaum - an Altinok custom

Ordered my first Meer about four weeks ago. A custom job from Altinok with the phoenix below embossed on it. Also getting a fiery red acrylic stem to go along with the phoenix. Sinan asked for six weeks to make it so I'm just in the painful process of anxiously waiting for it to be completed.

Now THAT will be a cool looking pipe! Best part though...being an Altinok, it'll smoke like a dream!

Wanted a good smoker first and foremost. Figured everything else is window dressing after that. Never smoked a Meer so I'm anxious to see what the fuss is about.

Be sure to read all the stuff on caring for your first meer! While there is no "break-in" like a briar, there are a few steps to take before firing that first bowl.....

The only steps I am aware of are making sure your hands are clean and trying to avoid touching the bowl if it gets hot and becomes tacky to help with even coloring. Is there something I'm missing?
