I have never heard of it.

    Greetings,

Sounds like re-labled RYO "pipe tobacco". The RYO folks did this to avoid the extreme taxes on cig tobacco. It's basically a cigarette blend cut a little wider to qualify as pipe tobacco.

Gift it to a roll-your-owner. It' not legitimate pipe tobacco, hence the hot, flavorless smoke.

Yup, a quick Google search turned this tobacco up at sites such as "ryocigarette.com" and "rollyourown.com", so it sounds like Cooper's right on the mark. I smoke cigarettes, too, but I pay the ridiculous tax when I buy them, and I don't when I buy pipe tobacco. I'd like to keep my pipe tobacco costs down at the very least, so I'd prefer that they don't mislabel things like this. It'll catch up to us pipe smokers one of these days when they decide that all tobacco should be taxed equally since these manufacturers lie about what theirs is meant for.

I thought a bill was passed to stop the labeling of RYO as pipe tobacco? It was included in the new highway bill. There is a thread I started in the Tobacco legislation forums about this.

Perhaps it is beginning to take effect. I checked out the products available under "pipe tobacco" on those two sites and at least one of them has actual pipe tobacco, from H&H to Balkan Sasieni, exclusively in that section (there were still a few brands I'm not at all familiar with, though). Their selection of pipes does include some that look like they're designed more for "wacky tobaccy" too.

The other site seemed a little less discriminating about what qualified as pipe tobacco, though they do carry most of the major OTC's and bag-o-bulks like Smoker's Pride.
