Thread: Kirsten Pipes

    Kirsten Pipes

Tonight I was cleaning pipes to take to the show this weekend. While looking at my collection I saw my Kirsten pipes. They brought back fond memory's of living in Seattle, the rain and cooler temps. After cleaning everything up I picked the straight Kirsten and took the dog on our nightly walk.

Before I made it to the first corner, the pipe was fully lit and smoke was flowing! The small bowl is great for the 20-30 minutes of the walk. I quickly thought to myself, why don't you smoke this pipe more often? Quickly I answered the question with the obvious, I have so many pipes!

But for those who are not as infected with PAD, Kirsten makes a great pipe! They are unusual, robust and cool smoking. I like that they are a conversation piece, but do not smoke them where "pipes" are being used for purposes other than tobacco smoking, do not want to attract the wrong attention.

So if you haven't tired a Kirsten you should. I just recommend an open mind when you do.

I have 2 straight and one curved Kirsten -- they're just great for all sorts of circumstances where a conventional pipe might be in danger (mowing the lawn, etc).

Sean, how are they to clean? I have an opportunity to pick up one of these Kazoos for a decent price, but I hesitate a bit when I think of breaking the thing down and cleaning out all those metal parts. I suppose I should just man up and try the thing, eh?

Effortless! Pull the stem, run a cleaner through (thin ones fit best). Pull the end plug, drain any liquid. Run the cleaner through the hole in the bottom of the bowl. Spin a kleenex or paper towel or toilet paper, poke it into the mouthpiece end of the tube, push it through with the stem, put the plug back and you're done. If you're out, you can put off cleaning for many pipe-fulls!

Yeah, it's that easy! It sounds like more work than it is. I have also pulled the cap at the bottom mid smoke before just to keep things dry. If you can get one at a good price do. Not only do they smoke well, they are unique. For me, that is reason enough to buy. Let us know what you think!

Alright, I'll have to see if my pipe shop still has it, though I have spent my tobacco budget already this month.

ETA: The one I was looking at is very similar to Sean's, with the matte black finish. I'd never seen this color on them before, but I don't pay particularly close attention to them.

Haha, do it! It's great. Glad your picking one up. And if the budgets spent, how big of a deal is that?
