President Ford in the first reply!?! That was my first thought. He wasn't shy about his love for the pipe. He wasn't considered presidential material, heck, he was hardly considered vice presidential material, but he rose to the challenge and he did honorable service to his country in the role as chief executive. I credit the hours he spent with a bowl for his being able to rise to the demands of office. A pipe smoker takes his or her time, considers every angle, and then sticks by the decisions he or she makes while cradling a briar.
He was the last president who was unashamed to be a smoker, and he smoked a pipe. 'nuff said. That's good in my book.

For me it had to be Fred MacMurray in "My Three Sons" during the late 1960's & early 1970's.
In movies, I admired many pipe smoking actors... but Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes most of all.
In politics (even though I'm a Democrat), I also liked and admired pipe smoking President Gerald Ford (1974-1977). We need another unashamed pipe smoking president!!

My favourite pipe smoker from print media is Hugh Hefner. Whatever your views are on his magazine, you have to admire the man's drive...left Esquire because they didn't want to pay him an extra quarter.
My favourite actor is Michael Gladdis. He smoked a pipe in the role Paul Kinsey and is a real smoker in his private life.
Also Reagan smoked pipe before entering the White House...

A pipe gives a wise man something to fiddle with as a means of gaining time to formulate an intelligent answer. It gives a fool something to stick into his mouth.

Oh Yeah! Van Cleef. He was awesome.

Ah! Hef! ...and his tobacco of choice was Mixture 79. He's number two on my list.
